Message from the Director

Carl Eisdorfer, M.D., Ph.D.

The facts are clear -- we can expect to live 30 years longer than our grandparents. In fact, in the next few decades, the number of people over 65 in the United States will likely double. This impending wave raises important questions about our future. What will be the quality of life as we age and what are the opportunities and challenges of a population where an increasing proportion are over the ages of 65, 75, and 85. Issues ranging from health and well being to work and economics will need to adapt and the need for investigation, innovation, and implementation will make the crucial difference.

Aging is a complex issue that requires collaboration among many disciplines to find new and innovative ways to improve the quality of lives of the aging population. The Center on Aging responds to this reality by involving faculty across the University and others throughout the world

Together, through cutting-edge research, innovative educational programs, and progressive community outreach, the Center on Aging is finding ways to not only lengthen life but to make it better.
