Dr. Sherman is the Associate Director of the Miami Area Geriatric Education Center (MAGEC). She oversees the development and implementation of continuing geriatric education for a variety of healthcare professionals. She also holds a secondary in the Department of Pediatrics, Mailman Center – University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD).
Dr. Sherman has developed several areas of particular expertise during her 17 years at UM. She has developed several topical training curricula and presented more than 100 local, state, national and international workshops on these topics which include: 1) Aging of individuals with developmental disabilities; 2) Older parent caregivers of adults with developmental disabilities; 3) Abuse, neglect and exploitation of elders and vulnerable adults; 4) Accessibility of programs and services for elders and persons with disabilities; as well as 5) various areas of Geriatric Nursing (She recently initiated and is President of the new South Florida chapter of NGNA- the national Erotological Nursing Association).
